On June 23, 2020, the annual traditional X International Geographic Tournament was held dedicated to the anniversary - 200 years since the discovery of Antarctica (opened on January 16 (28), 1820 by a Russian expedition led by Faddey Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev).
The aim of the tournament was to deepen the level of professional competence of students of higher education, the popularization of geographical education among young people; the identification and development of students' intellectual, creative abilities, interest in complex interdisciplinary structural and geographical research; ensuring integration with the international educational community.
In connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, only 2 teams took part in the Tournament: from the Republic of Kazakhstan - West Kazakhstan State University named after M. Utemisova, Uralsk and a team of 3rd year students of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Economics of the OGPU (training profile "Biology and Geography") under the supervision of an assistant professor of the Department of Geography and MPGD, Ph.D. Tyurina A.N.
The tournament was held on-line on WhatsApp and by email: it included 2 stages for students to complete creative video and media tasks in geography. According to the results of the X Geographic tournament, it was decided not to determine the winner!
We thank and congratulate the students of two friendly states who, even under the prevailing difficult conditions for interaction, were able to realize their love of geography and continued the glorious traditions of the great discoverers! Geography has no boundaries!
